Kathmandu
Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, is situated at an altitude of 1,400 m and, together with the surrounding suburbs, has 2.9 million inhabitants.
The city is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world.
Kathmandu is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Pashupatinath.
In April 2015, a large part of the historic area of Kathmandu was severely damaged by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. In the meantime, many of the historic buildings have been restored, but reconstruction is still ongoing in many places.
